I finally got into town center and there were two other sci-fi shops that opened up. Although it's been a while since I ventured out there. So I managed to pick up a bottle of Vallejo Dark Flesh. Unfortunately the tone was slightly off comapred to the Citadel Kislev Flesh that I'm not sure if I will adopt going forward. It is in a droplet bottle that I much prefer |
now, however it is in a bottle a millimeter too high to fit on the shelf along with my other paints :(

With the mounting amount of scrap, I thought it may be worth trying to utilise some again. That meant turning my attention back to the Orks. Although I just recently went to a CapCon with the family, I had recently been looking at latest version of Ghazghkull and all the different style he's been painted in. Hence I was thinking of doing various of these and calling it the Ghaz Faz or GhazCon. Rather than dive right in, I thought I'd try a concept one first. Luckily I still have an old Ork character pack for reference.
There's a heat wave and muy back is the window while working on the models, so the tube light adds too much heat that doesn't help. It's either too hot or too cold to work. However I endured the heat to get at least something done. However I still had not purchased a new pot of paint so I decided that I had nothing to loose and added water to my gloopy remainder. Luckily it worked out well enought that although there were still little bits, I managed to base coat the three bunkers and the other pieces to start painting, Despite this success, I'm not sure how long the paint will last in this heat if I need to patch up some mistakes.
I'm so glad that I used a full length rod for the barrel and wrapped the end with thin plastic. The overall look is so much more satisfying (and straight). Although I'm not sure if I could replicate this on the smaller size Battlesuits,
The large ruler looks almost new as it's rarely used, only to cut larger pieces of plastic down to more managble pieces like the base needed for my SM HQ. It's far too clumbersome for small epic projects. Hence the smaller ruler on the bottom right with the faded measurements and many accidental score marks along the edges. To my suprise I got the smaller ruler on the left from a Christmas Cracker! It's the same thickness as the larger ruler and thicker than the medium sized one. Even though I've had it since Christmas, I havent used it until now and its perfect for cutting down the plastic spare pieces down to the correct height for the Tau bunket turret I'm working on.
Each time I finish a project, I usually clear up again, just to wipe away all the remaining dust, paint, plastic shavings or what-ever that seems to gather on the surface of my work-area. So what next... a bit undecided.
Next time I'll need to cover the ends with masking-tape. Although they slot in, its a tight fit rather than the smooth sliding motion. Hence ended up spending time to scrape off the spray paint. I found my short small metal ruler that makes it easier to scribe as I didn't need to balance a 30cm+ ruler. However it was tiring on the fingers trying to holder the ruler in place tight enough that when I scribe, it didn't move. This was all I managed before the pain was too much.
Even though it'd be unlikely that anyone would rotate all guns down and spot one doesn't go as far as the others, it bothered me a lot! I tried using my scalpel, but didnt want to break the new point, tweezers didn't cut it... in the end I remembered this little tool I used to cut my Ironman models. It's an extremely small but sturdy blade and I managed to pry out the magnet. The hole I ended up re-carving looked a mess as I attempted the hand drill and scalpel. In the end I resorted to using green stuff to position the magnet in the mess of a hole I made. If only I was that eager to paint these tower.
Not sure if it was worth the wait, but finally got myself some Gloss to cover the crystals that looked too matt. Although it makes a lot of difference from looking at it, the photos just doesnt make much difference. I may just need to get a new camera... or phone...
