The pictures didn't come out as well, but the illusion of the pit turned out better than I'd hope, so feeling a bit smug. Also despite the lack of planning, the pulley system worked out quite well too so that it parks nicely against the entrance wall, but pivots out past the open gate over the pit. I was tempted to add the final piece of the wire that leads downwards in the corner of the room, but decided that would possibly be a bit too far as most likely I'd want to join it up with the winch and hand crank.

I didn't think I'd get any modelling done this weekend due to the heatwave. Luckily I remembered about a USB fan I purchased a year ago and that helped a lot as it redirected the heat from my fluorescent tube light. I need to get around to replacing that with something that generates less heat, although I have had it for over fifteen years! The pulley system I wanted in my pit room went better than expected with the amount of small detail. I was planning to use green stuff for the chain/rope, but instead went for extremely thin strips of plastic instead.
Hopefully once I paint this, it'll work out using some basic vanishing point, I just need to make sure I can darken out the wall beneath the entrance that I decided to have open, as it goes deeper. There will be a stone wall on either side that needs blasting back a bit more as it hides the two vanishing lines. As the room looked a bit empty, I'm now trying to think of a pulley system to add in case someone had to be lowered down into the pit.
I picked up a pack of variety mesh a couple of years ago and possibly only used a small amount twice. Once in my Gargant Head and another for the concrete mesh poking out of the edge of the Highway. Now I'm using it for a platform that I'm hoping my painting skill is up for the challenge, as I'm hoping to paint beneath to have an illusion of a pit beneath. So after deciding which mesh to use, it was trying to decide whether to have the room's entrance open, closed, removable or worse... slide-able.
I think there was a plan when I updated my WIP Parade a few months back. Possibly as I was hoping to move the Mountain Base / Space Marine HQ pictures from the Diorama section into one of it's own. However as that was still not complete, I decided to update the remaining ones to the most current. I'm just glad I'm not planning to do a mountain base WIP page. Hence now the Orks, Chaos and Tau WIP are up to date.
I'm so glad that I have pieces of plastic with textured sidewalk squares on. It's made life so much easier when making the ground my rooms in this Space Marine HQ. Not only saves me trying to paint a repeating pattern or include features to break up featureless ground, but also trying to cut these with the slot... a bit of a nightmare that I most doubt would have given up after second or even first. I made this room out of plain plastic sheet as it was going to be the "pit" hence I didn't need the textures squares and it was more effort than I'd like to make it a nice fit.
