As it nears the end of the month, I set myself a target to finish painting this. Unfortunately the last~30% of my base colour was all dry and only managed to salvage enough to make a pasty base coat. I only got the most out of this pot of paint because of the Tau towers. so unsure whether to purchase another to paint this bunker and then likelty leaving the rest o f the paint going dry. At least I managed to finish the guns, which is partial an achievement. I just need to find the equivilant in a droplet bottle. |
I'm so glad that I used a full length rod for the barrel and wrapped the end with thin plastic. The overall look is so much more satisfying (and straight). Although I'm not sure if I could replicate this on the smaller size Battlesuits,

The final image added to the Concept to Completion page. Just a minor addition to the site updates, but at least something. Hopefully once I get a few more scenary pieces and some backdrop, I can start taking more photos and populate the Tau Army section of this site. Here is a nice shot to showcase the drone like feature beneath the tower platforms. The Tau symbol on the front tilted as it's held on by a single 1mm magnet... think I got to glue this instead like the other two.
So I've finally reached the end of finishing Tower Two. It was an exhausting task and not sure when I will feel like tactkling the final tower. The communication array on both towers is identical size and I feel like it doesn't quite fit with the taller tower, hence may end up remaking it :( But think it's time for something different.
So the last four stands of Striking Scorpions now flocked with the Astro Turf, the first scenary material I ever purchased and still barely used! Now that summer is gone and the cold weather has settled in, I can take more photos without sweating. Who needs heating when you have the heat of two table lamps!?
I didn't hang about with the second Tau Gun Tower as it was the bank holiday Monday before I head back to work and a break in Sim City Buildit League.
I decided that it was about time to use the new hex bases, even though they are thicker than my normal bases, it didn't seem much different. Especially these special suits were supposed to be slightly lager and the plan was to start making these a little bit bigger like the newer 40K Battlesuits. I painted the base first as it was easier than trying to draw a straight line through the feet of the Battlesuit, but it does mean one shot at it. Due to the larger base size, I had to have a flat side to the front so they fit on the Tower platforms and that was my first mistake. I ended up having to repaint one section after glueing it on wrong. Slicing them off the original base, I ended up snapping the leg and arm off the XV84 and suprisingly the XV89 (action pose) didn't snap at all.
So the XV80's in comparison are slightly taller than the standard Battlesuits I've made. This wasn't an issue as the XV's were supposed to be new commanders. However the XV81 was shorter than the other two :( And I noticed that the lower legs were shorter than they should be. Likely I'll cut them at the knees and add a little bit to it. That will increase the heght even more and when I eventually get these painted, I'm planning to mount them onto the new hex bases that are even thicker.
