I abadoned the attempt to create my own Hex base and just went and used the purchased laser cut transparent base. I left one wall open, but not fully decided yet whether to fill it or not. However little progress other than the walls. At least the Drone fits neatly inside, although it will eventually be raised for the weapons to be mounted beneath it.
This long section sits between a long coridor in the middle and tha back of some rooms. The only time you would see it in the layout is when the floor above is removed! I'm not even sure why I'm making this. However I won't be adding any more pipes to it just yet. Even the main pipe isn't painted in case I need to add additional stuff to the pipe (stop valve?).

The large ruler looks almost new as it's rarely used, only to cut larger pieces of plastic down to more managble pieces like the base needed for my SM HQ. It's far too clumbersome for small epic projects. Hence the smaller ruler on the bottom right with the faded measurements and many accidental score marks along the edges. To my suprise I got the smaller ruler on the left from a Christmas Cracker! It's the same thickness as the larger ruler and thicker than the medium sized one. Even though I've had it since Christmas, I havent used it until now and its perfect for cutting down the plastic spare pieces down to the correct height for the Tau bunket turret I'm working on.
Over an hour and a half contemplating what to work on next. There were so many projects I wanted to work on, the Space Marine HQ power generator, various Tau Battlesuits, Tau scenary, Chaos Terminators, Ork Force One... just too many. In the end I found the HQ maintenance tunnel, but didn't want to add various pipes until I had the power generator room ready. So in the end I started just painting the base colour to get this out the way. I had nine 40K Tau shields that I wanted to make into mini turrets, but didn't want to use them just yet. So I finally opted to make a Tau Rail Gun bunker instead. Keeping to the Hexagon shape, I thought rather than use the purchased hex base that was the correct size I needed, I'd try and make my own. And with a lot of cut ends from my SM HQ walls, I would be cutting these down to size for the walls. A lot of small size hard cuts...!
Unsure which project or amy to work on next, I decided to take a look at some of the old photos and came across these taken back in 2017! I didn't use these due the camera shifting tones between shots despite the same lighting conditions. Some pictures were brighter, while others were darker. So I always planned to retake these even though it's been six years since then. I ended up deciding to tweak the H/S/L and was satisfied enough to post these, just so I could have more site content.
The final image added to the Concept to Completion page. Just a minor addition to the site updates, but at least something. Hopefully once I get a few more scenary pieces and some backdrop, I can start taking more photos and populate the Tau Army section of this site. Here is a nice shot to showcase the drone like feature beneath the tower platforms. The Tau symbol on the front tilted as it's held on by a single 1mm magnet... think I got to glue this instead like the other two.
So the last title (The End is Near) was probably not the best choice. I had a bit of relapse, the weather was cold and price of gas increased meaning I didn't want to risk bing in the cold study room. I should really get the door reinstalled as I removed it to put a baby gate instead over six years ago. That would probably help keep the room warner... but probably only a little as it's an attic room and have a small radiator.
So I'm finally working on the small Tau logo again, making two more and hopefully obvious for the remaining two Tau towers. I've been trying to complete these towers for over a year now and all I have left is this to add. The first one have a magnet and I even painted the detail lines on the back! However I think I'm going to stick these two to the tower instead of wasting more magnets. All that would be left is to potentially add more Tau details or drones to the towers. No famouse last words... just in case. |
