Concepts to Completion
This page repeats some of the blog entries tagged with "Concept" however this started to extend to other projects that I had some existing picture/idea to begin with. It was interesting to see the comparison with the original and to the completed model hence more was added here than the Concepts that I had on my blog. Occasionally I will talk about the process I went through to completion just briefly. Apologies to the originator of some images that I was unable to locate.
Mega-Boz-Tron
The inspiration was from the toy and art from Josh Nizzi. Two features that I had to keep was the tank treads and the swivel turret cannon. In no way was I planning this one to transform. The angled armour plates was also beyond my capability at the time of making. I added the Ork/Transformer head to the front as I wanted this visible, although it was not a feature of the toy, but some Transformer toys I had, you could do just that. Also I wanted my Ork boss to be riding in this tank rather than just standing beside it, hence the turret was made so he could fit inside.

This wasn't tagged as a concept, but was also based on an existing 40K model made by Madscuzzy from Singapore. When I first started this model, there was no intention to make it transform. The pieces just came together with no prior planning and then I just started making each piece removable. This doesn't actually transform, just parts removable and placed in different positions to make it into a robot. In truck mode, the additional pieces are just mounted on the back. The barely visible Ork in the drivers seat shooting a gun out the window was probably an idea from another 40K truck model I seen.
Ghazmater's Tow Trukk |

This truck was based off a creation from Irondog Studios. I only had the picture below when I made this and it was the large wheels that attracted me to make this model. I pretty much replicated as much details as I could with this one including the protruding engine, stub guns on the side and the ram. I didn't go as far as placing a second Ork in the passenger side and I think I did try and do the spot light too, but then abandoned it.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the original creator of this model to credit. It was the front armour that attracted me to make this piece. I replicated the front Ork face front armour using only scrap pieces of plastic in various thickness. There is even two Ork models in the mid section and an Ork standing in a gaping hole on the other side of the truck. I think the side wall looked too plain, hence I added two giant rockets on the side. As I didn't have smaller tubes, the cannon became bigger than originally planned, but also I wanted to model the cannon Big Bertha (hence its name).
Mugblast's Missile Boat |

While hunting for various truck images, I came across this one and liked it so much that I had to try and model something similar. Despite already making a few trucks, this posed quite a few difficulties as I tried to model too much detail such as the frame above the front wheels. It was the least enjoyable build in comparison with the rest that had no concept to base it off. This is probably one issue that contains the freedom of creativity when trying to replicate a picture. As I had no other images of this truck at the time, I ended up mounting missiles onto the rear.
Killa Kans |

The Killa-Kans was the start to the Dread Mob. Due to the static and weight of the metal models, I decided to switch to scratch building these. This was possibly the start of abandoning my hoard of metals and switching to entirely scratch building stuff from plastic. The basis of all these models were made from the cut-off epic base from my Tyranid Army and tubing of the same width. This was the quickest concept I made as all I had to replicate was the basics. Everything else didn't matter and due to the nature of the Orks, the more adhoc the better looking. All nine were made were just random pieces of weapons arms and legs thrown together. I did refer to many images to try and find different ideas to ensure each Killa-Kan had different features, the legs being the most difficult to vary.
Deff Dread |

This was the first project that began my "eye for detail" and trying to replicate the details of a 40K model. There was mass amount of detailed images available for these models that didn't help the situation. Luckily there was still a room for change and some of the weapons/arms was a bit difficult, hence some deviations. My stock of StripStyrene of rods and tube started to increase at this stage.
Ork Mek and Pain Boy |

These two are part of the Dread Mob hence I had to include them. They were models I wanted to replicate anyway and didn't want to go back to the metal characters that I owned despite my Warboss was one of them. The weight of the metal in comparison to the plastic makes a lot of difference. Although the claws weren't quite to scale, any thinner the plastic would just break, bit of a downside to using plastic rather than metal.

This is the pinnacle of Over The Top in all my projects (that is until I started the Tau Riptides). I was at one point trying to replicate every pivot in the legs and was on the verge of making it fully articulate. There was the usual lack of planning and after making the head and then the legs, I was just hoping it'd fit together to the correct scale. This project turned out better than expected despite the claw being a bit larger than intended, but for Orks it fitted in just right. Replicating all the detail got less fun and luckily I didn't go as far as replicating all the barrels in the Deffstorm Mega-Shoota.
