I finally opted for the clear bases and snapped off the other drones to stick them on the clear rods. These then slotted into the holes in the hex base. This allowed me to pop them out for storage, but so I could turn the direction the drone faced after they were super glued to the rod. The two drones mounted on the side of the base definately looked better facing forward than pivoted outwards, especially when they are in a line. This currently is my Wave of Drones so far.

The original took a bit of bashing including the Repair Drones with parts broken off. So I decided to re-purpose the original to accompany the new two to make this a Trio. I spent a week tweaking the two new ones, including removing the wings and re-positiong it as it was slightly miss-aligned! Detail that is barely noticable unless I'm looking at it in front of my nose without my glassess. I finally decided it was enough and base coated it to kick off the painting.
Some example left-over pieces from when I cut a lot of circular bases. These were just big enough to cut out the wings. I previously kept corner cut-off that was perfect once cut down for the chassis' drone disk to mount the atenna. I even found enough short cut-off 0.88mm rods that gave me three protuding bits per shield drone that I originally wanted to do, but didn't have enough space due to the mounting rod. I was not planning to make these shield drones removable, hence able to add these this time around.
made using my pile plastic junk. Even the thin strip that covered the top of the fuselage was left over from a past project. Many years ago I cut a lot of large circular bases and the left-over pieces between them where large enough to make the wings, some edges were yellowing indicating how old they were!
With all variantions, its time to make a decision which base I would like to continue with... Luckily it may be a while before I make the next stand of Drones and choosing which base to go with. Luckily that will be a while to go as I'm hoping to spend more time on the Drone Controllers.
Lack of sleep, neigbours bouncing ball on the concrete floor for almost an hour late at night, early Owls hooting at 5am and my little one started constantly coughing again in the morning is stressing me out and increasing my agitation, testing my tolerance of self control. And yet I decide to create more of my Drone Controller that I thought I would never create another. Not only the angled jet engines, but the curved chassis was not one I wanted to tackle and despite remember the stress and lack of enjoyment in creating it. Am I asking for it or is it an ingenious solution to combat stress with another type of stress?
If I'm planning to try and make a Legion of Drones that doesn't take me years, I need to abandon the task of hunting for correct bits of plastic in my bits pile. I spent more time looking for bits of usable plastic at the correct thickness to make the Guns, than making the guns themselves. :( With the long weekend ahead, I'm hoping to start work on a larger Drone related piece.
