Concepts to Completion
Tau Riptide v1 and v2
Rather than using plastic to create a model frame, I decided to try something cheaper and use cocktail sticks. Although I felt the concept was a success, the final outcome however was far from it. I was using stock square and rectangle rods that dictated the thickness of the components for the Riptide, plus the fact that I was trying to do too much detail, that was reason for the downfall of the completed models. It's the proportions of the legs to the upper body or the size of the backpack that make it look slightly wrong and the reason for these still being unpainted.
Fork Lift |
~Jan 2020
|
The Space Marine HQ needed something to transport crates and I was tempted to do an Aliens type Power Loader similiar to the Gamesworkshop Nemisis Dreadknights. However to do this much detail for a small piece would have been over-kill and I went with something simpler. There were various other ideas I found, including one by Inifinity Scenary (although I couldn't find much info), but the tracks put me off. In the end the decsion was made to keep it really basic and went with a standard small fork lifter with all the popular traits including the ability to add a removable pallet.
Third Chaos Terminator |
~April 2020
|
This began as a head based off a model by Brushkiller, but I didn't try to replicate the details on the flesh side of the face. If I ever get to paint this, I may try and paint it flesh coloured to see how it works. The main inspiration came from a model I believe painted by Ben Greaves. It was the posture that drew me to use this piece with the multi-barrelled cannon and closed fist. I did however raise the closed fist higher as if punching the air in triumph.
Ork Krew |
~July 2920
|
The second main character of the Ork Krew idea was originally based off Irondog's Big Mek Tork, but for whatever reason I struggled with the mask and didn't like how it turned out. Hence I shifted to a second unknown inspiration. However as my models was not going to be used for gaming, I actually armed him with a welding torch instead and put a zippo lighter in the other hand. On his back were two gas tanks. The other models were from a mixture of ideas and images, but the power tools being the main focus.
Hub Drone Controller and Welding Drones |
~July 2020
|
With the exhaust left over from a previous project, it was a shame not to use it. With the mass amount of images from Pinerest, I settled for this Drone Controller. Unfortunately I couldn't find who to credit this model to, as I straight up replicated it. The welding drones was also based off an image I don't know who to credit for, or maybe it's a stock model I've not seen by Gamesworkshop.
Tau Tower v1 |
~Oct 2021
|
There were several multi-story buildings/towers that I wanted to create something similiar, but for Tau. I needed to save space on my shelf, but also so I could take photos of my Tau for this website without having to commit to a type of ground terrain. However it was proving difficult with the decision to go with a circular platform and hexagon central column, both that was not a simple task to make. Hence this concept didn't get very far even though both pieces are held together using magnets.
Tau Tower v2 |
~November 2021
|
Two things that came together for this concept. The discovery of hexagon bases from Fluid 3D and also images appearing on Pinterest from Sean H Bullough. Using two tower designs and the hexagon bases, my Tau Towers came into fruition and hopefully the seed for my ultimation vision of a Tau City. Although the platform looks plain, beneath these are similiar feature as the Tau Drones. The final result still lacked the full Tau look, but hopefully set the first seed of a slightly alternative Tau "look".
Striking Scorpion Shrine |
~January 2022
|
The concept of Eldar Shrines was long forgotten with the creation of the Fire Dragon Shrine, but the crystal columns being the key feature. I believe I was hoping to use the same Vibro-Cannon piece to make multiple shrines, but I then deviated with the Striking Scorpions. I wanted something different and the unknown spiral piece was the start of the first concept, hoping the stairs would end with a tail. However coming accross Death Ray Design's Portal changed the direction of the design and the two designs cames together.
XV84 Crisis Battlesuit |
~June2022
|
The VX80's series were the first variant of Battlesuits released by Forge World and this one painted by Fil Dunn. I don't believe they were very popular, made from resin and with only slight variants that could have been easily replicated with the plastic version. The main difference were the weapon arms. The VX84 is the first one I completed out of the set of three. The curved shoulder pads being the hardest part and carved from a solid piece.
XV89 Crisis Battlesuit |
~Aug 2022
|
This variant of the battlesuit had easier to make shoulder pads as they were flat, but still had angled facets. It was carved from a solid piece too and then a gruve added to the underside to try and fit in the arm. I decided to adopt the pose in the photo below also painted by Fil Dunn with suprising sucess. Even the small knee plates were replicated on this model.
VX81 Crisis Battlesuit |
~Aug 2022
|
The VX81 had the most different back-pack and if it was not for the missile pods, would have been the first to be completed. The shoulder pads were made from small pieces wrapped around the shoulder, unlike the other two. Getting the angles was difficult and unlikely any of the sides were identical. Original model in the source photo was also painted by Fill Dunn.
