Concepts to Completion
Tau Commander
This Tau Battlesuit commander was a replication of my larger 40K model I made many years ago. The jetpack was based off a set from Strike Rogue Orb Mobile Suit Gundam that I actually built and owned. Unfortunately the small downward facing exhaust are fixed unlike my larger 40K model with mounted magents to allow it to pivot. Both weapons are based off the original model too and I only avoided replicating the head.
Second Wave School Bus |
~Sept 2017
|
I've come across many pictures of post-apoclapytic busses and wanted one in my Ork Convoy. Also after watching the movies Resident Evil prompted me to make this model based on the bus in the second movie. I was tempted to add weapons to the bus, but decided it would loose the feel, hence the only difference was mounting a ram to the front to make it more deadly.
Seer Council and The Warp Portal |
~Jan 2018
|
The Seer Council and the Warp Portal was two old projects, however I wanted to make another Seer Council now with a lot more experience in conversions. Hence rather than have two, I decided to merge these individual pieces into one Council of Ten standing around the Warp Portal ready to combine their powers to conjure something large... unfortunately the way the tip of the portals meeting at the centre limits the size. I guess I should have made these pivot outwards. The metal material of the Warp Portal does make this a harder endeavour if I ever read this again.
Ork Mega Plane |
~May 2018
|
There were many ideas and concepts I wanted to use for my Ork Mega Plane. I ended up creating multiple weapons for the nose first and eventually went with the Imperial Guard Valkyrie chassis. I wanted to include some small Tau Jet engines protuding from the side under the wings, similiar to the unknown 3D frame picture, but they looked so good to waste on this Ork Creation. I was planning to hook something onto the rear like the Srormraven's ability to transport a Dreadnought, but ended up just bolting an Ork Gunner to the rear. The overall vehicle got much larger due to the ork models I wanted to mount diving out of the hull. As I had moved to full plastic models, it would be unlikely I'd paint my metal Fighta Bommerz that looks way too small next to this mammoth.
Iron Warriors Warsmith |
~June 2018
|
The main inspiration was based on Perturabo from the Horus Hersey Character Series by Forge World. Unfortunately I struggled to create the four barrells on the arm and was left with two. Wanting to make it a bit more intimidating, I added the claws inspired by a conversion I found at Eternal Hunt. This was also the first time I made a wireframe (although from plastic) and tried to add green stuff to it. This was more trouble than its worth trying to get the two materials to bond. The main weapon was always going to be a Hammer, but I toyed with the idea of making the weapon swopable, but scrapped the idea due to the delicate nature of green-stuff. This is yet to be painted.
Ork Chop Shop |
~September 2018
|
The new release of Games Workshop's Mekboy Workshop inspired this project and the need to reduce my scrap pile. Although even with the amount of engines I ended up making (and still not painted), made barely a dent in the amount of ever growing scraps. Although without much vision, this slowly came together with small components worked on throughout ~two years including minor changes. I was most proud of the chain hook that slides across the iron beam. This piece finally came together in time for the 2021 painting competion.
K9 Junk Pile |
~December 2018
|
With the new Ork Mekboy Workshop came some junk piles. I needed something similiar for my Ork Chop Shop. I must have watched an episode of Doctor Who as I decided to hide K9 in the middle of the scrap pile. As painting this piece would have been difficult, I painted each piece before gluing it into place.
Ork Mek Boss |
~Jan 2019
|
I found this picture from Pinterest, but couldn't find any leads to who created this conversion to attribute to. It didn't look like a stock model from Gamesworkshop either. This had been one I wanted to attempt for a long time and with the success of the Warsmith, it was time to attempt this challenge. I didn't use a wire/plastic frame and made the head as detailed as possible and the rest of the body followed to scale and some plastic to provide support. So despite no planning on the size, it turned out just right in comparison with the other Ork models that ended up in the Krew proceeding this completion.
Second Chaos Terminator |
~Feb 2019
|
With the remaining heavy cannon from my Warsmith, I decided to attempt something based on the Tyrant Seige Termnator. I'm unsure if this was a Gamesworkshop creation or not. The Cyclone Missile Launcher above its head was never on the table and despite modelling a lot of the armour detail, it was hidden by the original cannon that proved too small. Hence the cannon became double barrelled. This is yet to be painted.
Hell Hammer |
~Feb 2019
|
The Hell Hammer hopefully would be part of a larger model, an idea from the Batman Lego set 70917; a lego Batman car that splits into three (picture taken on phone in Smyth Toys store). The vision for this would eventually form part of a larger Iron Warrior Seige Breaker Engine similiar to the Triax Super Heavy Tank from Palladium Books World Book 5 . The inspiration for the engines came from the Decepticon Fighter Ship from Transformers 3 concept art piece by GHD. The starship concept was also something originally in mind, but was left aside as I went towards the style of Gamesworkshop Hell Talons that I also had a few in store. This became an extremely long project as I wanted this to come apart for painting, but over engineered it to slot together. This is still unpainted and not sure if I will end up gluing it together after painting it.
