The Slaughtered Wolves
I finally decided to finish off the "Wolves to the Slaughter" project. Originally I wanted a scene of dead Space Wolves, but never got around to doing this. So I finally decided to start this. The one mistake I made was create this on a large round base instead of individual small bases. If I did this, it meant more work, but it meant I could position each dead body in any way I wanted and cluster them closer together or around other Tyranid stands.
A Typical Dead Tactical Space Marine
First I cut off each shoulder pad. Then I sliced the front face off so I could cut out the bolter. The legs were twisted so the toe cap points to the side. The body is stuck face down, if too much of the front was sliced off, the body seems too low and I end up propping it up a bit with green stuff. If the legs snapped off when twisted, I used green stuff to try and align the leg with the body. Note though that just sticking the leg on to the base isn't enough, as the leg join usually slightly raised from the ground compared to the foot.
Next The shoulder pads were re-added with the help of some green stuff into a more prone position so the arms can extend from the correct position of the shoulder pads. Cutting the bolter from the front slice, I used green stuff for the arms. For the other arm, I used a length of green stuff and a small stub of green stuff for the hand.

A Lazy Dead Tactical Space Marine
For the lazy version (especially after three of the above and messing around with small bits that keep flying from your tweezers), I just twisted the legs, carved off the front a bit and placed him face down. Some attempt were made to put the arms at his side. If a face up is required, I skipped the twisting the legs and just cut the left shoulder pad so I can have this arm sprawled to the side.
Small Variations
"Brother Kaliam was first to spot the approaching Tyranid Warrior, but before he could bring his weapon to bear upon the alien, his arm was sliced off from his shoulder and knocked back by the Tyranid's Claw. On seeing Brother Kaliam's arm fly past him, Brother Logar turned just in time to see the Claw sweep past him before he was thrown backwards onto the ground. For a few seconds, he was puzzled by the loss of sensation to his lower body before passing out from the pure pain, the image of his legs several meters from where he laid burned into his dying eyes. Brother Daniel didn't even know what happened when the searing pain shot through his head, ending his life as the Tyranid claw chopped down from his head to his abdomen."
Using the above techniques, I created small variations. In the image above, I have a pair of standing legs with the remaining half of the body laid flat slightly away from it. A face down marine with its arms severed from the main body. And a face down marine with the top sliced open with a pen knife.
Double Death
"Sergeant Raymond saw the Hormogaunt charge at him, its claws impaling into his chest . With a cry of pain, he severed the claw from the creature and thrusts his sword into the chest of the beast. They both collapsed back, the crimson red blood spurting out from his wound and out of his mouth. Seeing that the vital black fluid was seeping out from the wounds of the bio creature, Sergeant Raymond turned his head to die without the sight of the foul creature."
I used a Space Marine Sergeant and cut the power fist arm off and re-created a normal hand with green stuff. The legs were twisted again so the toe caps pointed to the side. Using a Hormagaunt, I cut the claws off the model. As this was based on the new 40K version, the set of middle claws became small arms. The top claws were sliced in half and one fitted back on above the head when the model was laid flat. Drilling a small hole into the Space Marine Sergeant, I pushed the other claw into his chest. To finish the scene off, I cut the sword from a Space Marine Commander and stuck it into the chest of the Hormagaunt.
Painting, Blood, and Snot
The Space Wolves were painted in a space wolf grey and a wash of black. The shoulder pads were under-coated with yellow before an attempt at drawing the wolf on one shoulder pad. I later added the eye with some white paint. The paw on the other shoulder was easier. One black blob followed by four small spots to represent the claw marks.
The Blood was more interesting. I believe PVA glue can be used, but I had a bottle of water effect (not GW stuff) which is quite thick. Mixing this with red paint, it was a matter of pasting this all over the wounds. The end result is quite effective, but it just doesn't show in the photos. Trying to get the spray of the blood correct is probably the hardest, but just imagine water being spilled or watch where the water fly when you thrust something through it.

I used a snot green paint with the water effect on the marine on the right in the image. This was suppose to be bio plasma, or in my mind, a big boogie (don't know if I spelt this right, but its a slang for snot) shot from a Tyranid's nose... or mouth. I added a bit of red to mix in some blood. But I didn't really like how this turned out.
